Austen rocks. When I read...which isn't much for some years now unfortunately, I read a lot of fantasy, some non-fiction..I used to get a lot of science based mags but not anymore. Have you been reading Fant for a long time? Did you read the Wheel of Time? I got stuck in book 9 and am trying to decide if I want to keep going. It feels like the author is just dragging it out now. At some point I want to start again. I miss it. Have you been watching Game of Thrones? I think it is really well done. I have not read the books but the show has great visuals...I love the opening sequence with the moving map....Seems like since they did that excellent (finally!) version of LOTR they are finally willing to put really money into Fantasy. I have to wait now for season 3 to come to rentals since we don't have those cables channels. Mainly I have read classics, including fantasy... Tolkein, Lewis, McCaffrey, Brooks, Donaldson; some old stuff that comes from poetry and mythology like The Song of Roland, El Cid and Beowulf, Divine Comedy and Paradise Lost, The Odyssey and the Iliad. I personally think that these are the foundations of fantasy. A lot of mystical writings too give hints into the rise of fantasy and sci-fi. A lot of Sci-fi crosses over into fantasy too, like the Dune series... Frank Herbert... etc. I don't read too much modern stuff... I prefer the classics, but if something is of real literary quality, I'll look at it. Eathray

It would be great if they turned the Mac's dragon series into films! they could definitely do thread falling! I think, same with Lord of the Rings, the visual technology for the special effects has only recently reached the place where The Dragonriders of Pern series could be done effectively. I'm sure someone will think of it sooner or later. Eathray

What is thread falling? Haven't read them books. Thread is the debris from a passing comet that returns to Pern on a typical cycle of every 200 years (but once in a while it skips a cycle and passes on a 400 year cycle, as is the case with the story line in the first Dragonriders series). The riders fly up into the sky and burn the falling thread before it reaches the northern continent of Pern and devastates the continent. The story line centers around a three-tiered class system of riders, lords, and peasants. It's been a long cycle of 400 years since thread fell from the sky, and the lords of the halls are tired of supporting the riders' living since there is no more thread to fight, but the rider F'lar soon discovers that the thread has returned to the skies and revitalizes the the riding cast for the 70 or so year period of thread fall to be fought. If you like fantasy James you should check out the series. The dragons are very big characters in themselves which I enjoyed. Fantasy has really been interesting, going in a lot of directions. There is the Xanth series where our main character straddles two worlds...ours (where he can talk to inanimate objects-so yes, the walls are telling stories) and Xanth, with a lot of fantasy characters and never ending puns and I believe there is a Zombie character. That might appeal to your wit James. Thieve's World where a group of great authors came together to create a world and each created a few characters...a chapter a character. They can use the others' but not kill them off. So the story line changes with each chapter...you get your next installment on a character in the next book and so on...The Dancers of Arun-with openly gay characters who are both stunning dancers and deadly fighters...so many series. Some with SF elements and some not. What saddens me is how many series have gone out of print. Perhaps if Potter had existed earlier and the readers moved on to other series... I am hoping as time passes more trilogies will be made for the screen now that we have the technology. Given the popularity of Game of Thrones...I think there is a huge audience out there if they just would look.

I don't like the Canadian boards at all now. After the 2011 changes they started to suck. Now they have completed the process. Karl, I know you've posted some of the complaints with the Canada forum... what are the problems with the upgrade? I can't remember what the main complaints were, and jeff@ebay wanted to know. The thing I remembered was not liking the emoticons because everyone was making fun of them. I can't recall what the more serious complaints were. Can you give me the top 3 or so worst things? Thanks. Eathray

One thing this week has clearly displayed is that many many people can't be bothered to read.
The number of posts in the New Community Experience board that do not relate to
The New Community Experience
Brings home that fact.
Maybe eBay should rewrite rules policies and everything else in text speak.
With a link those of us who know how to read and write can click on for the full version.
